SOLSTICE TO SOLSTICE

[ PART 1 ]

182 dawn concerts, suspended in the air, every day without interruption, from the winter solstice to the summer solstice.

Dawn, the blue hour, the beginnings of daylight. A view to the east.
In the midst of Munich, on the vacant lot of the future Konzerthaus, pianist-composer and performer Alain Roche, connected to his suspended instrument, performs WINTER SOLSTICE – a one-movement piece for solo piano.

At the same time, live from 7 natural sites in Bavaria and Switzerland, sounds emanating from animal and plant activity, inaudible to the human ear, are captured – through a technological device developed especially for the project by the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK, ICST) – in the water, under the earth, on and within plants.
The sound artist accompanying the pianist receives this raw material via digital streaming. He selects, processes, and broadcasts it live.

Permeable to these sounds, performer Alain Roche disrupts his score.
The audience, equipped with headphones and seated on deck chairs, welcomes the day, its colors, and this improvised counterpoint between notes and sounds. Thus, the composition evolves over the performances, transforming the initial piece WINTER SOLSTICE into a new piece titled SUMMER SOLSTICE

An ode to light, seasons, and elements, the performance SOLSTICE TO SOLSTICE experiences the cyclical time of life.
